FAQ
Technical & Features
What file formats are supported for loading and saving scenarios?
MobilityStudio supports all latest standard MATSim file formats, including compressed (.gz) versions of: network.xml, transitSchedule.xml, transitVehicles.xml, events.xml, population.xml, and various analysis outputs like railsimTrainStates.csv.
How do I export my finished scenario for a simulation run?
We provide a dedicated “Export All Files” feature. This function automatically gathers all currently loaded components (network.xml, transitSchedule.xml, etc.) ensuring your scenario is immediately runnable in the MATSim simulation engine of your choice.
Can I analyze individual agent movements over time?
Yes. Once you load the events.xml file, you can use the “Find & Follow” feature. This allows you to search for any person/agent by ID and have the map automatically pan and track their movement throughout the entire simulation, providing detailed insights into individual behavior.
Is it possible to edit element attributes in bulk?
Yes. You can use the powerful Table View. This view allows you to load elements (like all links or nodes), apply filters, sort the data, and edit attributes for multiple selected elements simultaneously, greatly accelerating data modification tasks. You can also select multiple elements directly on the map and click the dedicated edit button to adjust common parameters.
Can I customize the visual appearance of my scenario layers?
Absolutely. The powerful Dynamic Styling feature allows you to define rule-based styles for all elements (links, nodes, vehicles, etc.). You can customize color, size, symbol, and labels based on any attribute within your data. Save the style settings to a file and use them for the next project!
How does the Spider Analysis tool work?
The Spider Analysis tool is a key visualization feature. By simply selecting a single link on the map, the tool instantly generates and displays flow lines (spiders) that show all the car or transit passenger flows across the network that are utilizing that particular link, revealing immediate dependencies.
Can I create compelling video output of my simulations?
Absolutely. MobilityStudio includes a built-in Video Recording feature. You can record the map animation, including all layers and vehicle movements, directly to a high-quality MP4 file, perfect for presentations and reports.
I want to relieve my eyes during late-night sessions or just look cooler to my colleagues. Is there a Dark Mode?
Yes, of course! We fully support Dark Mode. Simply go to Settings > Theme and select your preferred dark visual style.
Licensing & Use
I am a student and want to use the app for my studies. Is there an affordable license for me?
Yes. We offer the Academic/Research License, which can be purchased by the university or institution. Once the university acquires this license, it can be distributed for use by all eligible students and researchers. Please encourage your department or professor to contact us.
Which version of MATSim does MobilityStudio use?
None. MobilityStudio is an independent visualization and editing workbench. You decide which MATSim simulation engine version you want to use by embedding your own MATSim executable JAR file. The compatible data formats (for network.xml, events.xml, etc.) adhere to the current version of MATSim.
Does MobilityStudio utilize the official MATSim library?
No. MobilityStudio is an independent, commercial application. However, you can add your own executable MATSim JAR file, which can then be launched directly from within the app. This allows you to configure the simulation engine as required by your specific use case, granting you full flexibility.
General Information & Support
I found a bug. Where can I report this?
Thank you for helping us improve! Please report any issues or unexpected behavior using our Contact Form and choose the Subject “Bug Report”.
Where can I get more information about the MATSim simulation engine?
The official source for the MATSim simulation software is www.matsim.org. Please note: MobilityStudio is a commercial, third-party product and is not an official development of matsim.org.
